So I just got Steady Shot a few days ago, and am trying to work out a shot rotation with it.

A steady shot that causes 100 damage. Causes an additional 175 damage against Dazed targets. 30 of your Ranged Attack Power is added to Steady Shot's damage.
So let's look at the level 70 scenario for a moment. Look at a few shot rotations using a reasonably well-geared hunter (in roughly 10-second cycle blocks). Note that I'm using mana regen as 0.31 mps (mana per second), with a 5 second delay after casting. Also assume the hunter has spirit = 130 and 5000 mana at level 70 (ballpark figure). Also consider a decent DPS weapon (70 dps) plus 30 dps arrows.
NOTE: I'll give a summary table first, then go into math to derive it at the end for people to look at if interested.
Here are the rotations:
Aimed + multi : old 10-second rotation of aimed shot + multi + autoshot (10 second rotation, other variants exist) Arcane: Spam arcane shot every 6 seconds. Synopsis:
A) Multi+aimed is dead. Forget about it. Arcane shot spam gives almost the same DPS for less than half the cost.
B) Aimed + auto is also dead. Almost the same amount of damage as autoshot only, but you have to spend mana to get there.
C) Multi + Steady shot spam is the highest single-cycle DPS, with moderate mana costs.
D) Steady shot spam is barely ahead of multi+steady shot in long-term DPS after quiver is used. This doesn't include barrage talent, so it will probably lose out in the long run.
E) The "only use autoshot while grinding" mentality is a falacy. You should be spamming steady shot when you are grinding. It maximizes your DPS over a long period of time, EVEN if you have to drink every 2 minutes or so.
My conclusion: Yay steady shot! GG Blizz. Super duper spell that buffs our class a lot. It should now be your spam button. But you can still use multishot if you want to (obviously not if there is CC'd mobs around).
So the uses of each shot are now:
-Aimed shot: PVP opener. Also with misdirection you can give your tank some aggro with this.
-Arcane shot: PVP instant shot and kiting.
-Steady shot: Your new move for PVE grinding and boss fights.
-Multi shot: Hitting multiple mobs (gasp!), or single-target cycled dps
